Tomorrow is new comic book day in North America and it’s time to get those last minute additions to the pull lists ready! Here are the top five for March 21, 2012:
BATMAN #7
Written by Scott Snyder
Art by Greg Capullo
Publisher: DC Comics
Batman may have survived the Court of Owls’ first strike (barely), but even as he recuperates, the Court is preparing to launch its most deadly and sweeping attack yet. Plus: The secrets revealed in this issue will change Batman’s world forever! You won’t want to miss the issue everyone will be talking about!
Why to watch for it: You are living under a rock if you haven’t seen the praise for this. The sales are justified, this title is absolutely fantastic.
THE GOON #38
Written by Eric Powell
Art by Eric Powell
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
You might have thought you knew everything about Goon’s past after Chinatown, but there’s more to the story. And most of that story has to do with his aunt. How did he come to be raised by her? How did she wind up as a circus performer? And what is the tragedy that ties them inseparably together?
Why to watch for it: The Goon is one of those unique creator owned series that chugs along like a freight train with no sign of stopping.
BIRDS OF PREY #7
Written by Duane Swierczynski
Art by Jesus Saiz
Publisher: DC Comics
Go ahead. Skip this issue. You’ll only be missing 20 pages of insane, wall-to-wall action as the Birds of Prey finally catch and unmask the elusive mind-controlling villain known as “Choke” – only to discover that he’s turned one of their own against them! You’ll also be missing Black Canary vs. Ivy! Batgirl vs. Starling! Katana versus…well, that would be spoiling things, wouldn’t it? BIRDS OF PREY #7: The comic for people who think there’s not enough fighting in comics.
Why to watch for it: One of the strongest books to come from the New 52 and one of the best representations of female heroes in the industry. These women are seriously dangerous and Swierczynski is doing a great job of keeping the mystery alive in this title. Fantastic art from Saiz.
PROPHET #23
Written by Brandon Graham
Art by Simon Roy
Publisher: Image Comics
Prophet finally arrives at the towers of Thauili Van. He must reach the G.O.D. satellite by climbing up, all the way to the edge of earths atmosphere past raging battles, crystalline beasts?and bizarre alien technology. All the while fighting to stay ahead of the deadly hunter who tracks him.
Why to watch for it: Rob Liefeld chose a fantastic creative team for the relaunch of Prophet and this title makes me actually feel desolation and loneliness like no other book in comics. Strong imagery, strong storytelling.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #682
Written by Dan Slott
Art by Stefano Caselli
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Part One Of “Ends Of The Earth”, The Next Big Spider-Man Event! The Doc Ock Story You’ve Waited 50 Years For! Doctor Otto Octavius Holds The Entire Earth Hostage With His Dying Breath. What Price Will Spider-Man Have To Pay To Buy The Whole World One More Day? Special Appearance By The Avengers!
Why to watch for it: Slott has been building up a showdown between Spidey and the Sinister Six for a long time, and it is finally here! Doctor Octopus is more dangerous than ever….
